SOPHIE

DURAND

Within the Artist-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host Sophie Durand. Durand was born in Perth, Australia, 1993. She lives and works in Reykjavik (since 2017), Iceland and she is staying in Studio Rojo during February 2020.

Sophie graduated from Curtin University, in Perth in 2015, since graduating she has taken part in residencies and exhibitions in Australia and abroad.

Sophie Durand is a visual artist and her practice extends from the intersection of sculpture (commemorative representation, placed and situated physically in time) and performance (drawing on a formal model of theatre in her works, she is interested in the transitionally of a theatre performance, amounting and then decaying as it comes into existence) and also has a painting and drawing practice. Sophie’s works have their origin in anecdote, archive and memory; generally these are directly accessible to/ collected by her, or based on her own experiences/ observations and the focus of all work is to activate archive and memory to form and although theses forms vary all works can be categorised as memory images.
