CCA Andratx is excited to introduce these five artists partnering up for a joyful celebration of diversity. Big Hugging with Bruises – Große Umarmung mit blauen Flecken is presenting a dialogue between very articulated artistic positions, inspired by the idea of experiment and exchange which is key to the CCA residency program.

We are all just progressively coming out of a very extreme time where "hugging" has become very rare and personal contact has been more limited than ever before. Accordingly, this situation will leave "bruises" and will not pass by so quickly.
The title, once a humorous statement by the artist Chris Johanson during his residency at CCA, has become even more meaningful now. With regard to the exhibition, it reflects the mutual desire to getting closer to each other knowing at the same time that this interaction always leaves marks. The more spelled out and individually pronounced the respective artistic languages are the more they seem to conflict with one another. Yet, as this conflict is born out of the wish to interact and communicate, it is a joyous and cordial one.

All works in the show are the result of process-driven artistic practices, each one of them, however, entirely different in speed, concept and the way they refer to the world. At the same time all artists share a more or less collage-focussed imagery which can be understood as a contemporary strategy to decipher and reconcile our era's contradictions.
